The indoor growing of vegetables, tomatoes, peppers, and greens like lettuce, mint, spinach, basil, cilantro, etc can be a really great experience.

You can make fresh pesto from basil you grew yourself. You can have flavorful tomatoes in Winter. You can have fresh food without having to drive into town.

You can work out your life stresses by puttering with your plants all year long. You can cultivate fragrant, beautiful flowers. You can grow fresh mint for mojitos. You can do quite a bit and have fun doing it.

If you do it right.

You need value for your money and quality equipment that is going to last. You want a warranty from a company that will be around if you ever need it.
You want to buy from people who know how to grow vegetables indoors and outdoors.

Your best value for your money comes from HID growlights.

Put your money into good quality growlights.

Your experience starts with learning.

The best learning is by doing.

Get a growlight, get a plant; plug in the light, water the plant.
Try not to confuse this step. (LOL)

Here is some notion of how much your electric bill will increase from burning a growlight:

The first thing to do is get your electric bill and figure out how much you pay per kiloWatt-hour. Rates are usually set by a State regulatory agency who price it in tiers. The first tier price is usually the lowest. After you use that block of power, the price is often higher. So, you often give a guess at an average. Often, the more power you use, the higher the price goes in the next tier up.

You can always call the phone number on your power bill and ask them to give you a base estimate per kilowatt-hour.

A 175 watt growlight uses less power than a toaster, many TV's, or a vacuum cleaner. It uses less power than two 100 watt regular light bulbs.

You also need to figure how many hours in a day you will burn your growlights: common times are 8 hours a day, 10 hours a day, 12 hours a day, or 14 hours a day.

So here is an idea of monthly cost based on how much you pay per kilowatt hour and hours per day:

175 Watt Appliance--

8 hours a day paying 8 cents a kWhr costs $3.76 per 30 day month
10 hours a day paying 8 cents a kWhr costs $4.70 per 30 day month
12 hours a day paying 8 cents a kWhr costs $5.64 per 30 day month
14 hours a day paying 8 cents a kWhr costs $6.59 per 30 day month

8 hours a day paying 10 cents a kWhr costs $4.70 per 30 day month
10 hours a day paying 10 cents a kWhr costs $5.88 per 30 day month
12 hours a day paying 10 cents a kWhr costs $7.06 per 30 day month
14 hours a day paying 10 cents a kWhr costs $8.23 per 30 day month

8 hours a day paying 12 cents a kWhr costs $5.64 per 30 day month
10 hours a day paying 12 cents a kWhr costs $7.06 per 30 day month
12 hours a day paying 12 cents a kWhr costs $8.47 per 30 day month
14 hours a day paying 12 cents a kWhr costs $9.88 per 30 day month

8 hours a day paying 14 cents a kWhr costs $6.59 per 30 day month
10 hours a day paying 14 cents a kWhr costs $8.23 per 30 day month
12 hours a day paying 14 cents a kWhr costs $9.88 per 30 day month

250 Watt Appliance--

8 hours a day paying 8 cents a kWhr costs $5.28 per 30 day month
10 hours a day paying 8 cents a kWhr costs $6.60 per 30 day month
12 hours a day paying 8 cents a kWhr costs $7.92 per 30 day month
14 hours a day paying 8 cents a kWhr costs $9.24 per 30 day month

8 hours a day paying 10 cents a kWhr costs $6.60 per 30 day month
10 hours a day paying 10 cents a kWhr costs $8.25 per 30 day month
12 hours a day paying 10 cents a kWhr costs $9.90 per 30 day month
14 hours a day paying 10 cents a kWhr costs $11.55 per 30 day month

8 hours a day paying 12 cents a kWhr costs $7.92 per 30 day month
10 hours a day paying 12 cents a kWhr costs $9.90 per 30 day month
12 hours a day paying 12 cents a kWhr costs $11.88 per 30 day month
14 hours a day paying 12 cents a kWhr costs $13.86 per 30 day month

8 hours a day paying 14 cents a kWhr costs $9.24 per 30 day month
10 hours a day paying 14 cents a kWhr costs $11.55 per 30 day month
12 hours a day paying 14 cents a kWhr costs $13.86 per 30 day month
14 hours a day paying 14 cents a kWhr costs $16.17 per 30 day month

To calculate different values, use the ten cents per kiloWatt-hour or the ten hour figure and make the other amount a decimal.

A 1000 Watt growlight uses 4 times the amount of a 250 Watt growlight.

Fresh Cilantro can cost about $2 for one quarter of one pound (yes, that is 8 bucks a pound). Potatoes are not good candidates for indoor growing unless you live in Bethel, Alaska because they have such low cost.

Now, even if you bought your growlight from a huge corporation that does not know enough about a growlight to include a kit to actually hang your growlight, you can still use the 3R Lighting Tutorial and Mineral Troublechart to learn how to use your growlight to grow healthy plants. You can even ask us by e-mail how to grow your plants. It's not that the big internet clearinghouse doesn't want to answer your growing questions, it's really that they don't know.

The 3R Lighting Company has helped many neophites and many experienced growers produce flavorful and fresh vegetables, lettuces, herbs, etc. over many years.

We invite you to experience the miracle of indoor vegetable growing with 3R Lighting.
