Phosphorus is helpful with tomato transplants as well as transplanting other starts and plants.
Phosphorus is used by the plant to regulate Nitrogen use and absorption. The proper availabilty of Phosphorus to plants enhances root growth--increases size and number of root crops as well as the early ripening of fruit overall.
A severe Phosphorus deficiency can show on a plant as small, stiff leaves which curve down. The older leaves are affected first. The tops of the leaves may show a blue-green tone with the undersides showing a purplish hue from sugar build up in the leaves not transferred to the fruit. Plant respiration is impaired with a reduction in carbon fixation, photosynthesis, and oxygen production. Typically the leaves do not die, but growth is stunted. Fruit production is smaller both in size and number.

You can make Guano Teas for soil watering or hydroponics. Take One Gallon of Water, Add in One Pound of Guano together with One Cup of Earth Juice Catalyst. Stir well and let the tea "steep" for 24 hours. For hydroponics or watering with sprinklers, either strain the mix, or make a "teabag" out of burlap, pantyhose, or whatever convenient material you have that works for you. Use the Tea at a rate of 1/4 Cup Tea per Gallon of Water. Do NOT cap the Tea--cover with a cloth--allow the Tea to breathe.
It is best to mix up fresh Tea not too long before watering--especially in warm weather--or store it in the refrigerator. Guano Teas keep for about five days to a week or so, but add any supplements to the tea like seaweed, bloodmeal, worm castings, etc. shortly before applying the solution to your plants.
It works best to make a separate solution of seaweed, bloodmeal, worm castings, etc. in another bottle, then mix your supplemental solutions together with the diluted Tea or simply water your plants with either the supplemental solution or the Guano Tea at separate times.
Mixing supplements into the guano tea is only OK short term. The microbes will compost the amendments. These microbes consume oxygen. Any Carbon in the solution wants to tie up the Nitrogen.
Regardless of the kind or type of guano you start with, if you brew the guano into a tea, the nutrients become easily accessable to your plants. The faster your plants grow, the more nutrients they will consume. For any nutrient to become available for plant absorbtion, it has to mix with water. Generally speaking, the more moisture, the more easily the nutrients are available to the plants. Too much water creates run-off which transports the nutrients too far for the roots to pick them up. Mixing dry guano directly into the soil delays the uptake of nutrients until they become moist enough for the roots to pick them up. The best way to take care of your plants is to watch them and give them what they need. Organic supplements like guanos and seaweed add a fullness and complexity to the flavors of any produce.
Using Guano is an excellent way to enhance the flavor of your produce.

Please do not confuse the guaranteed analysis numbers between organic fertilizer and synthetic fertilizer. It often seems that the bigger the number, the better--the more for your money.
If this makes you feel better--well, fine. Simply because you add a form of nutrient to the soil or growing media does not mean that it will be available to the plant. Plants will only use nutrients as they can use them. Organic compounds are often more easily accessable to your plants than some forms of synthetics. Sometimes the balance of the synthetics works out perfectly and is right on. Organic Fertilizers are often easier on your plants and often the plants use a higher perecentage of the lower number of the organic nutrient more easily than a higher concentration of another harsher fertilizer that the plant simply never uses.
N.B. It is always a good idea to encourage benficial microbial activity in the root zone. Guanos are full of many microbes. This makes growing healthier plants which resist problems much easier.
Guano does not come from simians, apes, monkeys, nor the infamous "Batboy".
Guano has come to represent a polite word for animal wastes in many forms, whether used as a fertilizer or simply as a descriptive.
